Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum: Seminole Artifacts and Culture
Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum invites you to see the world's largest display of artifacts and exhibits of Florida's "unconquered" Seminole Indians. You will see rare artifacts of unique Seminole culture, and exhibits so lifelike you will think the figures are alive!
The Second Seminole War is depicted in "We Seminoles," a dramatic five-screen history film. You will learn all about Seminole history, including why they are still known as "The Unconquered." The museum nature trail winds through the beautiful cypress dome and leads to a re-created Seminole village. Watch artisans at work on basketry, woodcarving, and the unique Seminole patchwork clothing. Learn about traditional uses of the native plants and trees.
The ceremonial grounds represent the Green Corn Dance, the annual spiritual event of the Seminoles. Special events in February and November feature arts and crafts, traditional foods, native dancing and/or battle reenactments. You will enjoy your ride to the Seminole Big Cypress Reservation. Along the road you will see alligators basking in the sun, great blue herons, cattle egrets and other wildlife of the unique Everglades/Big Cypress Swamp eco-system.
Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum is open every day except Monday and holidays, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The museum is located west of Fort Lauderdale just north of Alligator Alley, I-75 Exit 49. Only 60 minutes from Fort Lauderdale, Naples, and Ft. Myers and 90 minutes from Miami. Admission is $6.00 adults, $4.00 seniors and children. Children under 6 are free. Phone: (863) 902-1113.
